It's that time of year....my son starts to cough, and the next day
I do too. Luckily a trip to the doctor reveals no flu, nor strep, but that doesn't mean our throats don't hurt, and we are nursing a cold.
One of my favorite remedies, though not for everyone, is a ginger lemon, garlic tea. I make it fresh in a pot, and sip throughout the day. I am not sure if it's the actual ingredients, or the fact that I am ingesting lots of fluids that does the trick. It sure does make me feel better. The ginger naturally warms the body and is an antioxidant which strengthens the immune system, the lemon provides vitamin c and the garlic is a natural bacteria fighter, which helps with coughs and hoarseness. All around good stuff to put into your body. So, if you are feeling like a bit of a cold is coming on...boil up some water, pour into a teapot, slice some fresh ginger and lemons, and add a few cloves of crushed garlic, steep for 3-5 minutes, and drink! (you might need to warn those loved one's though whom you might be kissing!)
