TADASANA -MOUNTAIN POSE
It's the New Year. Always a great time to get started on a fitness regime. Yoga is my favorite, obviously! For the next few weeks and months I shall be posting yoga poses, and breaking them down. Any good workout begins with a good foundation. Yoga in particular needs something to stand on!
With Tadasana, we come to the front of our mat, feet firmly planted down. Lift up the toes and spread them wide and put them down again. Big toes, inner ankles, and inner heels touching. Tighten and lift the knee caps, and pull up through the thigh muscles. Roll your shoulders up and back and feel your chest open. Let the arms hang by the side, and face the palms to the front of the room, or by the sides of the legs. Extend the neck up, and feel like your head is being pulled up gently by a cord. Relax the face and look straight ahead.
Take some deep breaths, and clear your mind of scattering thoughts. You are about to start your yoga practice. You've chosen to spend some time on yourself, and will better because of it.
